The bulletin states that the site contains information sheets on 42 risky substances, such as 2,4-D herbicides, mercury and chromium (dioxins) and polycarbonate, subject to regulatory restrictions. The info pages tell you how risky each substance is, whether it is cancerous, damaging our genes, our ability to reproduce, our hormonal system.
Real dangersThere is growing evidence that chemicals and chemical pollutants are responsible for a great deal of damage to human health. According to a WHO study in 2011, 5.6 percent of all diseases in the world, and 8.3 percent of deaths (4.9 million deaths a year), can be linked to chemicals and pollution. And fishing is caused by 2 percent directly from agricultural and industrial chemicals.
In recent years, numerous substances, such as phthalates, which have been absorbed by plastics, have been shown to pose a long-term health risk to the hormone system. Phthalates, or substances that are also present in furniture, technical articles, and endocrine disrupters, are released from the products into the air, dust and then into the body. Because they are slowly decomposed, they can accumulate in the body and even pass on the impurities to their fetus. This site describes the substances that are at risk and how to avoid and eliminate them. International treaties and laws, background papers on relevant domestic and foreign organizations, as well as a glossary explaining the concepts, assist in the translation and interpretation. The website also has the opportunity to ask questions, which will be answered by the experts involved in the project.
Participants in the project are planning to create newsletters for new chemicals of interest in the coming months, and interested parties, volunteers, and experts alike. The www.kockazatos.hu was created by the Environment and Energy Operational Program's "Supported by Sustainable Living and Related Campaigns" application - the Environmental Foundation published.
